The Story Behind Cottonfab
Cottonfab is a traveling exhibition built around one belief: India's handloom, textiles and traditional craft deserve to be seen up close. Not through a screen, but in a hall where fabric can be held, a print can be examined and the person behind the work can answer a question.
Each edition gathers weavers, printers, craftspeople and traditional product makers from different regions, and sets them side by side for a few days in one city. Then it moves on to the next.
Purpose
Our Mission
Our mission is to support traditional craftsmanship by creating real, direct opportunities for artisans and weavers to meet the people who will use what they make. An exhibition removes several layers between a loom and a home.
We want handloom to feel approachable rather than distant — something a visitor can understand, compare and choose with confidence. Alongside that, we hope every visit leaves people a little more curious about Indian textiles and the regions they come from.
Celebrating India's cultural diversity is part of the same effort. When crafts from different states share a hall, the differences between them become visible, and that is often where appreciation begins.
Looking Ahead
Our Vision
To make India's diverse handloom, Indian textiles and traditional craft accessible to more people, while helping traditional craftsmanship continue from one generation to the next.
Craft traditions survive when there is demand for them. Every exhibition that connects a weaver with an interested visitor makes it a little more possible for the next generation in that family to keep working at the loom.
Over time, we would like Cottonfab to be a familiar stop in more cities — a few days each year when handloom, prints and handmade objects from across India come within walking distance of home.
